Suddenly, the world stopped.
Or so we thought.
During the time of the pandemic, the world was thrust into a cosmic dimension – err, within the solid confines of our homes – where we kept safe and protected from the recent global nightmare, caused by the corona virus disease or Covid-19. However, we – the creative and artistic lots – saw an opportunity to rise above the ashes, so to speak. Instead of seeing the glass half-empty, we found the situation a unique and agreeable chance for the enhancement of our craft.
Because, time was on our side.
Through the ages, any form of art creation is beneficial in the therapeutic healing of the mind, body and spirit, especially during a crisis.
What better way to achieve it? To craft a “fictional Covid-19 sphere,” either from the figment of our own imaginations, or inspired by true to life events. The formula was simple. A creative brain + computer, tablet, notebook, mobile phone or whatever + reliable wifi + passion for writing = Voila! Anthology.
It was one of Litarthub’s publishing endeavors. Headed by the dynamic duo/authors Mayumi Cruz and Katie Velez who joined forces to achieve a common goal – a love for writing – they organized a Call for Flash Fiction submission entitled, “Love In The Time of Covid-19” back in April. Instead of counting cobwebs in the ceiling while waiting for the virus to disappear, we counted the minutes and raced against time to meet the deadline for our fiction stories. It kept our creative juices flowing and forced our hibernating muses working, amid the chaos and uncertainty that surrounded us.
The contest was a success. The end product was a kaleidoscope of the selected writers’ two-hemisphere brain effort, with “love in a pandemic setting” as the main theme.
Thus, the eBook anthology “Silver Linings” was born.
Written by a group of imaginative women of all ages, it weaved a variety of literary genres: myth and folklore, paranormal, time travel, and others fiction stories about love, hope and courage – something we all needed in this predicament.
